The Nationals pounced on Mike Gonzalez in the sixth and added a couple of runs at Charlie Morton's expense to come back and defeat the Braves by a score of 6-3.The game started out as a pitcher's duel. The Braves' Kenshin Kawakami and the Nats' Colin Balester pitched five innings apiece. Kawakami allowed a double to Cristian Guzman, two walks, and one unearned run. Balester's only mistake was a two-run home run to Chipper Jones. The Braves scratched another run off of Kip Wells with Jeff Francoeur's RBI single.
The Nationals, though, teed off on closer Mike Gonzalez in the sixth. He allowed five hits and three runs, the coup de grace being a two-run double by Elijah Dukes. Washington tacked on another two runs off of the wild Charlie Morton in the eighth.
The Braves play the Blue Jays tomorrow.
